He saw her at another register while he stood in line at the grocery store. It had been a long time, but people grow apart and he wasn’t going to make a scene for small talk. If an opportunity presented itself… maybe.
He lost track as he tended to his business and found himself walking towards her as she loaded her groceries into the trunk of her vehicle.
She looked up and saw him, “Oh, my God! I have not seen you since high school. How are you?”
“I am well thanks. How are you? It’s been, what… twenty-six years?”
“Yup. Twenty-six… depressing isn’t it? You weren’t at the last reunion?”
“No, I wasn’t. I was out of the country for that one.”
“Oh, Mr. fancy jet setter. I, however, was happy for the opportunity to get out of the house and put a good drunk on.”
