This is heartbreaking...Many do not know the story of Lucy Higgs Nichols...She escaped slavery during the civil war and made it to the Union lines..There she joined up with the Indiana 23rd Infantry and acted as their nurse for the remainder of the war..After the war the men of the 23rd petitioned Congress so she would get a pension...The only female, north or south, to receive one....Here's a photo of her and "her boys" taken at a GAR reunion in 1898..My great great grandfather, Peter Weber, is far left, middle row, with the killer Sam Elliott mustache...Lucy is in the middle, in a place of honor...Her statue was vandalized recently...I don't get it...At all....

Hello new followers, I hope I don’t disappoint you. I want this place to feel like home, where we can escape the Thunderdome and process the world. Where we can post dog pics and recipes and book recommendations. Where we support each other as we get sober, lose weight, embark on new business opportunities, creative endeavors, relationships and travels. I want this to be your oasis of sanity and laughter in an increasingly mad world. A creative outlet where you can share your spirit with us.

We might not have any control over the news cycle—but we can control our habits and attitude. It all starts with us. And hopefully a little piece of that will start here.

Last year for Halloween my nephew was Andy Reid and my niece was a Chiefs cheerleader. They were so chubby!🥰

I woke up to an email from someone telling me to stop singing on #DumpsterFire 😥
