Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution that you kept?
This is an appropriate prompt as we approach January 19, also known as “quitter’s day” dubbed so by fitness app Strava after analyzing data from 98.3 million uploaded exercise activities. It’s pretty well researched that most people give up on their resolutions by the second week of February if not much earlier. I, for one, am glad we have nanny state fitness apps letting us know we’re failures now, too, instead of just our reflection in the mirror.
In my drinking days, my resolutions were always “quit drinking,” “quit smoking” and “quit men.” It was the same for several years and I always failed about a
week (two days) into the new year, which reaffirmed my deeply held belief about myself — that I’m a loser. Always motivated but never able to get my shit together.
